Decarboxylate Your WEED
First off, cooking with cannabis does not simply mean grinding up bud and sprinkling your meal with it. You won’t get high and it will taste really, really bad. In order to cook with cannabis you need to Decarboxylate your bud first. Why? Cannabis needs to be activated by heat. Once chemicals like THC or CBD hit a certain degree, they provide the desired effect. Cannabis by itself, is just another herb. There are several ways to do this:
- Preheat oven to 240° F/115° C.
- Break up desired amount of cannabis with your hands or grinder.
- Place the batch on a baking tray with tin foil or baking sheet.
- Bake the cannabis for 30 to 40 minutes, flipping every 10-15 minutes to temp evenly.
- Once the cannabis is light to medium brown, you’ve nailed it. If it starts to crumble, that’s okay.
At this point you can either integrate it into your meal, or store it in the freezer with a mason jar. Both methods work, but if you’re serious about using cannabis to infuse your meals for medical or recreational purposes, we recommend using the decarb first. It works like a charm and ensures that the effects of your desired strain are completely activated before introducing it to your meals. If not, you may run the risk of not fully activating your bud, and nobody wants that.
Dry Herb Recipe
Essentials: 1 pound ground beef, 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon of ketchup, 1 teaspoon of mustard, 1 gram decarboxylated crumbled cannabis
- Place all ingredients in a bowl and massage the essentials into the meat.
- Ball burgers and evenly distribute onto grill.
Weed Oil Recipe
Of course, you could skip the decarb process by using THC or CBD oils. This just means that the original flower has been decarboxylated through a chemical process, and can be far more practical to cook with.
Essentials: Cheese, bread, tomatoes, pesto
- Preheat your favourite grill cheese pan, medium heat.
- Smear a tablespoon of butter or margarine on one side of the bread.
- Build out your grill cheese: Mozza, cheddar, or swiss should be the go to + Pesto & Tomatoes
- With the sandwich made, smear 1ML of Oil on the top piece of bread. If you’re looking to taste more terps, you can spread some more oil in between the cheese and pesto.
- Place the sandwich butter side down and cover pan with lid.
- Once the cheese has melted and the bottom piece of bread is golden brown, flip it and let the Oil side fry, for a couple minutes, but only enough to get the top piece lightly toasted. Don’t over do this.
